Quail Run Farm March 3, 2019 Derby – Thank You!

Thank you to all who entered our show and ESPECIALLY to those who were brave enough to ride in the cold temperature and windy conditions!  The rain stayed away and the sun visited us briefly in the afternoon. The GROUND CONDITIONS remained perfect. Alas we had many scratches!

Many hours of work are put into running a show especially a Horse Trials with all three phases. It takes a lot of volunteers also! Thank you to the many who thanked our volunteers for turning out in the cold!

We were very disappointed that so many riders scratched. Please keep an eye on the NTEA Calendar and our website www.quailrunfarm.net. We will try and schedule something for the w/e of March 23/24 so that those who were unable to ride will have the chance to do so before we change our courses for our SPRING HT Sunday, April 7 with XC schooling on Saturday! Let me know via e mail if you are interested in attending either Saturday or Sunday????

We thank our Dressage Judge Frederick Magazzeni for taking Gloria Bedhun’s place at short notice. Frederick did an excellent job and gave lots of advice and encouragement. He is an excellent dressage rider and coach! Alas our numbers were sadly diminished but with the aid of Dressage Steward, Febe and Scribe Ginger they were able to keep the show moving forward to fill the gaps! Not an easy job! We thank riders for their cooperation!

Judge Lynne Partridge presided over the Show Jumping with the aid of Kim Stafford and Jordan Adams. Steward Kim K Dickman rounded up the riders as they trickled in from dressage. Thank you all!

Our Derby consisted of from 4 Show Jump fences (Tadpole Division) to 10 for our one Prelim rider. The Cross Country consisted of up to 10 fences, all in our large well drained front field. Scored as SJ fences!

Once through the gate onto the Cross Country course Jump Start riders faced, from 5-7 Jump Start fences. Of these, 5 fences had separate bigger 2’3” OPTIONS! Each OPTION fence taken subtracted 1 penalty point from the riders FINAL SCORE! I have found that as the adrenalin flows on Cross Country course, that riders will sometimes get out of their comfort zone and tackle a more challenging fence!

Our WINNER was Sophia Peters 33.6 was second to Jackie Spalding 33.1 in Dressage. However she deducted 5 points on XC and 1 point on SJ options and ended up with a score of 27.6. Sophia also was the LOWEST SCORING Pony Clubber and WON A LEATHER HALTER for her pony, Champagne!

Pre Beginner Novice 2’3”/Jump Start 2’.  First Place Winner Congratulations Sophia!

Open BN was won by Dominic Chiffolo on his wonderful Field Hunter, Crazy Reward. 40.8

Open Novice was won by Susan Gwynn and Magellan on their Dressage score 31; in their first Novice Competition!

Tadpole Division under 12“, was won by Christina Raymond and Prince in their very first competition! Congratulations to these hardy riders!

Tabitha Wages and Haley Averitt both won Blue Ribbons in LEAD LINE CLASS! Congratulations!

Thank you to our Cross Country volunteers, Faith Ann McMahon. Brenda Sheets, Allison Laszewinski  and to Sarah and James Baker our finish timers!

Silver Stirrups Pony Club fed us all day long. Thank you Louise Rudolf, Mia, Julie and Claire James and other PC’s!

Kathi Roof brought her propane heater to keep our garage warm and was our Show Secretary. Thank you Kathi! Heather Campbell helped man the Secretary Table. We hope to see you again soon!  Jan and Peter.
